About

 Vision

We envision a world where communities aren’t just surviving, but thriving. Where people don’t have to worry about pollution where they live, work, play, and pray. A world where everybody has the power to shape their future, where negative health impacts from pollution and a damaged environment don't shape it for them.

As the National Grantmaker – West partner in the Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program, UNITE-EJ is working to make that vision a reality in EPA regions eight, nine, and ten.

As a project built by and accountable to impacted communities like yours, we are also working across the Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program to ensure that as much of this money as possible moves directly to communities on the ground.

Purpose

The goal of UNITE-EJ is to address environmental and public health issues. We are doing this by building capacity within Environmental Justice communities – facing environmental hazards or reduced quality of life – to create healthy, thriving communities.

This is happening by:

1) Resource grassroots organizations to address past, current, and future environmental health and human health challenges

2) Coordinate efficient, effective, and equitable grantmaking and reporting processes across EPA’s regions 8, 9, 10 and at the national level, reducing grassroots organizations’ barriers to accessing federal resources.

Over the next three years, UNITE-EJ will do this by distributing grants to environmental justice communities in EPA regions eight, nine, and ten.

Partners
